Your journal is yours.
Here’s exactly what that means.
The short version
Dusk is a private journaling app. On the free plan, your journal entries never leave your iPhone — AI reflection questions are generated entirely on-device using Apple Intelligence. On the Pro plan, when you choose to generate deep insights, your last 30 entries are sent securely to our AI partner, analysed, and immediately deleted. We do not store your entries, sell your data, or use your writing for any purpose other than the analysis you requested.
What data we collect — by tier
- Entries stored locally only
- AI runs on-device (Apple Intelligence)
- No account required
- No analytics collected
- No crash reporting
- Last 30 entries sent on request
- Processed by Anthropic API
- Deleted immediately after
- Never stored on our servers
- Never used for AI training
How Pro deep insights work
When you tap “Generate deep insights,” your last 30 journal entries are transmitted over an encrypted connection to Anthropic’s API (the makers of Claude AI). The model reads your entries, identifies patterns, and returns an analysis. The entries are then immediately deleted from Anthropic’s systems.
Anthropic does not store your entries or use them to train their models. You can review Anthropic’s privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy.
Your journal entries
Your journal entries are stored using SwiftData on your iPhone. They are not backed up to our servers. They are not synced to any cloud service. If you delete the app, your entries are deleted with it. We recommend using iOS device backups if you want to preserve your data.
Entries are locked at midnight and become read-only. This is enforced locally on your device — we have no access to your entries at any time.
Subscriptions and payments
Dusk Pro is an auto-renewing subscription managed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. Billing, receipts, and cancellations are all handled by Apple. To cancel your subscription, go to Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iPhone.
Analytics and crash reporting
Dusk does not use third-party analytics tools (no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude). We do not track how you use the app, how often you open it, or what you write.
If the app crashes, Apple may collect anonymised crash logs through their standard crash reporting system, subject to your iPhone’s privacy settings. We use this only to fix bugs — no personal data is included.
Children’s privacy
Dusk is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the Pro insights feature, please contact us and we will address it immediately.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to how we handle your data, we will update this page and change the effective date above. We will also notify you within the app before any change takes effect. Continued use of Dusk after notification constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
